Alberta is one of the three prairie provinces of Canada, and the fourth most populous, with a population of more than 43.7lakhs. Its landscape encompasses mountains, prairies, desert badlands, and vast coniferous forests. It has more than 600 lakes and rich mineral deposits. Being a landlocked province, it predominantly has a humid continental climate. The capital of Alberta- Edmonton and the largest city- Calgary, are renowned for their hospitality, special events, and festivals. English is the official language of Alberta.
What is today the province of Alberta, has a history and prehistory stretching back thousands of years. Recorded history begins with the arrival of Europeans. The rich soil was ideal for growing wheat, and the coming of the railroads in the late 19th century led to large-scale migration of farmers from Eastern Canada, the United States, and Europe. Alberta was enlarged to its present boundaries in 1905 when it was made a province of Canada.
About one-third of Alberta’s land area is in agricultural use. Beef cattle dominate livestock production. Lumber, wafer board, newsprint, pulp, and paper are some of the significant products of forestry. Commercial fishing is done in Alberta’s northern lakes.
The province’s strong economy relies mainly on the oil industry, given Alberta’s abundance of natural resources. Other mineral resources include sand and gravel, limestone, and salt, but the most valuable is sulfur, most of which is extracted from natural gas. About half of Alberta’s workforce is employed in the service sector. The minimum wage per hour in the state is- 15CAD.
Banff National Park- home to two of the most beautiful lakes in the world- Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. You can do canoeing, paddling through the lakes, or simply walk the trail along the shores.
Athabasca Falls- Thousands of years ago, a glacier slowly tore through the rocks and formed the canyon that now houses the Athabasca Falls.
Maligne Canyon- the 50-meter-deep canyon in Jasper National Park, is a sight to behold. It is home to fossils, waterfalls, animals, and leafy plant life.
National Music Center, Calgary- based in Studio Bell, it is a national organization devoted to all things music. This includes musical performances, state-of-the-art studios, the opportunity to study music, and an exploration of musical history.
WinSport- WinSport operates Canada Olympic Park, a primary venue for the 1988 Winter Olympics. The site is now a world-class training facility and adventure park, where you can ride the fastest and longest single zipline in North America from the top of a ski jump, or grab a seat in the back of a bobsled and ride the course.
